The GEL-KINSEI is ASICS' flagship performance running shoe, incorporating many of the company's advanced technologies. However, the GEL-KINSEI 5 has been updated and now features Asics' innovative new FluidRide construction to deliver the best combination of rebound and cushioning properties with reduced weight and exceptional durability. The fifth version also features a seamless upper construction, which improves comfort and fit as it moves and bends with the foot. This greatly complements the Personal Heel Fit System to provide a great fit and the ultimate shoe for serious runners.

The shoe incorporates the I.G.S. (Impact Guidance system), a design philosophy in which individual components of the shoe work together to produce a more comfortable ride and improved gait. Additionally, the GEL cushioning system in the forefoot and rearfoot places a silicone-based material in critical areas of the sole to cushion impact, allowing for smooth movement through the stride and reducing the risk of injury.

The essential and intelligent Biomorphic Fit Upper incorporates strategically placed stretch material across the upper, reducing bunching when the shoe moves, thereby reducing the risk of blisters and irritation. This works alongside the asymmetrical lacing design that follows the natural curve of the foot and the Discrete Eyelets, where independently placed eyelets ensure the laces pass through the upper, distributing the tension of the laces, improving fit and reducing the potential for irritation.
